Rothie Rovers are Dickie Trophy Winners

Rothie Rovers 4 – 2 Postal ALC

Division Two (East) leaders Rothie Rovers picked up their first silverware of the season when they beat Postal ALC in the Colin’s Tyres Dickie Trophy final.

Postal’s goal had a lucky escape on the six minute mark when Rothie’s Raffan and Smith had shots blocked by defenders.

In eleven minutes Rothie’s Beaton was in front of goal, ten yards out but his shot went over the bar and out of the ground.

Rothie were passing the ball well and had control of the game going ahead in twelve minutes when keeper Akroyd’s hand clearance sailed over Postal’s defence allowing Sandy Raffan to run in and beat keeper Wiseman.

Postal’s Turbine gave Rothie’s keeper a scare when he was allowed to turn in the box and his shot scraped the outside of the post with the keeper nowhere.

Rothie went further ahead when Steven Sharp‘s shot hit Postal’s MacMillan on the knee and was deflected into the goal.

In thirty one minutes Postal pulled one back after Neil McDonald beat his marker and fired a shot in from ten yards.

Postal turned on the style forcing Rothie into their own half and from a corner in forty minutes Craig Johnston headed the equaliser to make the half time score 2-2.

The second half started with Postal pressing forward but shots from Turbine, Ure and Paterson could not find the target.

In sixty three minutes Rothie’s Jamie Millar put his team back in front with a shot that bounced in front of keeper Wiseman, hit his shoulder and ended in the net.

Five minutes from the end Rothie’s Sandy Raffan put the result beyond doubt when he scored from the penalty spot after Postal’s MacMillan handled in the box.

The last five minutes got niggly with needless fouls committed and the referee had to show a red card to Postal’s Steven Ure for an off the ball incident.
