Westhill claim the Barclay Cook Cup

Westhill 4 – 1 Kemnay Youth

Westhill, the newcomers to the Aberdeenshire AFA, took on a strong Kemnay team who were last in a final two years ago.

Kemnay Youth were the first to threaten and in ten minutes Westhill keeper Goodbrand had to make a diving save to his right to push a shot from Darren Ross for a corner.

In twenty five minutes a Westhill move down the right allowed the ball to be crossed to David Graham who headed past keeper Walker.

Five minutes later David Graham put Westhill two up from the penalty spot .

Kemnay Youth had a goal disallowed for offside in thirty two minutes and just before half time Kemnay Youth were awarded a penalty and Darren Ross calmly beat keeper Goodbrand to make the half time score 2-1.

Kemnay Youth’s Ross had a chance to equalise in fifty four minutes but keeper Goodbrand pulled off a great save. Kemnay Youth’s Adam hit the inside of the post with a shot that ran across the goal and hit the other post before being cleared.

On the hour mark Westhill’s Iain Jamieson crossed the ball from the right, it went high over keeper Walker and went into the net.

The goal of the game came in seventy seven minutes from a free kick to Westhill thirty yards out taken by Alastair Rae. The ball flew into the top corner of the net giving keeper Walker no chance.

Kemnay Youth made chances in the last ten minutes but could not beat an on form Westhill keeper. Final score 4-1.
