Nicolls Win the Stephen Shield

Nicolls Amateurs 3 – 0 Lads Club Amateurs

Nicolls Amateurs got their name on the Stephen Shield for the second time by winning the Shield which was presented in 1978 to the Association by the late George Stephen (Bunter), Past President of the Aberdeenshire AFA and founder member of Nicolls Ams.

The game was played on a firm surface making it difficult to control and pass the ball. Nicolls went ahead in ten minutes while Lads Club defence stood claiming offside allowing Nicolls’ Michael Ord to run at goal and fire the ball past keeper Deans.

Eight minutes later Nicolls had a great chance when Fleming missed the target from six yards out. A move down the right by Nicolls’ Johnston saw his perfect cross fall to Scott Birnie who made no mistake from close range.

Lads Club started the second half pushing forward with Mair and Allison making chances but could not beat keeper Webster.

Just on the hour mark Nicolls’ Craig Fleming put the game beyond Lads Club when he ran on to a through ball and scored with a twenty yard drive making the final score 3-0.

Although Lads Club were defeated their secretary Andy Duncan had a big smile on his face as he became a proud father for the second time this morning.
