Cove Thistle 6 – 3 Cammachmore

North of Scotland Cup Second Round at Cove on Saturday 8th January

Cove Thistle had burst pipes and a flooded dressing room overnight but managed to get repairs done before kick off. Referee Hudson inspected the ground and gave the thumbs up for the game to go on.

Cove were too strong for third division Cammachmore and had them pinned back in their own half for most of the game.

Cove’s first chance came in sixteen minutes when Esson’s shot was stopped by keeper Leslie’s foot, rebounded to Esson whose shot hit the bar and went out of play. Two minutes later Cove’s Stewart saw his shot hit the post before being cleared up field.

Esson made another run down the left, crossed to Stewart whose header was pushed for a corner by keeper Leslie. From the corner Cove’s Craig Strachan gave keeper Leslie no chance with a drive from eight yards.

In twenty six minutes Cammachmore levelled the score when Ian Smith blasted in a right foot shot finding the back of the net.

Six minutes later Cove were awarded a penalty when keeper Leslie pulled down Esson in the box and Craig Wilson converted from the spot.

From the restart a move by Cammachmore’s Ian Smith and Simpson found Ryan Causby whose shot beat keeper Greig.

Cove took the lead again five minutes before half time after Marc Stewart sidefooted the ball past keeper Leslie. A minute later Cove’s Craig Wilson made it 4-2 with a shot from close range.

Half-time: 4-2

Five minutes into the second period Cammachmore’s Hadingham made a great run through the middle beating three men only to see his shot saved at the second attempt by keeper Greig.

Cove’s Wilson had a chance when he tried to chip keeper Leslie but Leslie got a hand to the ball sending it for a corner. Cove were now well in command of the game and Martin Craig made it 5-2 with a shot from seven yards.

Edward Esson
added another goal for Cove making the score 6-2 and chalked up Cove’s hundreth goal in all competitions this season.

Just on full time Cammachmore’s Ryan Causby got a second making the final score 6-3.
