RGU 1 – 0 Ellon Amateurs

1st Touch Football Division One (East) at Kaimhill on Saturday 16th October

RGU are only three games into their season and have taken maximum points giving them a mid table place.

The game started at a fast pace with passes going astray and neither team able to take charge. Keepers Waugh and Cumming had little to do as most moves were breaking down in the last third of the pitch and any shots were off target. In the thirty first minute Ellon failed to clear the ball and RGU’s Johnny Lynch headed past keeper Cumming to make the score at half time 1-0.

In first two minutes of the second half RGU forced three corners but Ellon defence held strong. On the hour mark Ellon should have levelled the score when Smith broke through and with only the keeper to beat his shot was smothered by keeper Waugh. Two minutes later Ellon’s Anderson’s shot was saved at the second attempt by keeper Waugh.

With seventy five minutes gone RGU’s Mowat missed a good chance when his weak shot was saved by keeper Cumming. In seventy seven minutes a corner on the left to RGU found Lynch and his header was heading towards the top corner of the net but keeper Cumming somehow got his fingertips to it and pushed it over the bar.

RGU kept up the pressure but squandered chance after chance with poor finishing. RGU’s Priestly was causing havoc in Ellon’s defence but his good work failed to add to the score and the score remained 1-0 at full time.
