Westdyke win the Premier Trophy

Westdyke 5 – 2 Sportsmans Club

This was the seventh meeting of the two clubs this season with two wins, two losses and two draws each making way for an exciting game in this final.

Both teams started looking for an early goal and both keepers were in action in the first five minutes.

In the seventh minute Westdyke’s Paul Neill was in front of goal with only keeper Wilson to beat his shot found the back of the net.

Westdyke had another chance three minutes later when a move by Stevenson and Coutts gave the latter a chance but his shot went narrowly past.

Westdyke went two up in eighteen minutes when poor marking by Sportsmans’ defence allowed Ian McKenzie to fire in a shot.

Sportsmans’ Law was unlucky when his shot hit the crossbar and went out of play. Just on half time Sportsmans’ Law crossed the ball into the six yard box and the ball hit Westdykes’ Gordon Douglas and went into the goal making the half time score 2-1.

Half-time: 2-1

The second half started with the play flowing from end to end. Both teams had chances but the score remained 2-1 until the sixty sixth minute when Paul Anderson beat keeper Wilson.

Westdyke’s Malcolm Stevenson added to the score line when he slipped the ball under keeper Wilson from close range.

Minutes later Malcolm Stevenson got another for Westdyke and with five minutes remaining on the clock Sportsmans’ Brian Robb scored to make the final score 5-2.

Full Time: 5-2
