Bon Accord Win AFC Trophy After Extra Time Thriller

Cowie Thistle, last year’s runners up in the AFC Trophy, took on Bon Accord City who are twenty points clear of Cowie in the Premier League with both teams having a win against each other in the league.

Cowie kicked off and within two minutes were a goal up from a corner latched on to by Neil Fowler at the far post and his drive beat keeper Hill.

Their lead lasted for three minutes when Scott Craig beat Cowie keeper from six yards.

Both teams were finding it difficult to keep their feet on a wet surface and some passes went astray. In thirty eight minutes Bon Accord’s Redford had keeper Adie diving full stretch to push his shot for a corner.

Bon Accord’s keeper was in action a minute later when he had to push the ball past the post from Fowler.

With forty two minutes on the clock Bon Accord’s Harris pulled down Cowie’s Fraser in the box and referee Duff pointed to the penalty spot. Cowie’s keeper Ross Adie ran the length of the field to take the kick and scored making the halftime score 2-1.

Bon Accord were having the better of the second half, pushing forward at every opportunity but in sixty eight minutes McMillan for Cowie broke down the right. His cross was headed into the goal but referee Duff disallowed for a foul on keeper Hill.

In seventy eight minutes a shot from Bartlet was not held by keeper Adie and rebounded to Scott Craig who scored from two yards making the ninety minute score 2-2.

Bon Accord had most of the play in extra time and in one hundred and two minutes their pressure paid off when substitute William Small lobbed the ball over keeper Adie to put Bon Accord ahead for the first time in the match.

With no further scoring Bon Accord lifted the AFC Trophy for the first time.
