Great Western Utd 0 – 2 Old Aberdonians

Premier League Trophy Quarter Final at Woodside on 17th April

Both teams fielded strong sides in this Premier League quarter final played on a bumpy surface making it difficult to control the ball.

The first half got off to a slow start with both sets of players giving the ball away with slack passing. It was the fourteenth minute before Great Western keeper had to make a save from Old Aberdonians Marshall.

Old Aberdonians were having most of the play in midfield but were finding it difficult to get past Gt Western’s veteran defender Scott Chisholm and there was no scoring at half time.

Words must have been said at the break as both teams came out full of running and with a will to win. Old Aberdonians were the first in attack with a shot from Fraser saved by keeper Brown. Then Old Aberdonians Marshall’s shot was pushed for a corner by keeper Brown.

Early in the second half Great Western’s keeper was sent off for pulling down Old Aberdonian’s Andrew Cameron in the box and Cameron then beat substitute keeper Mitchell from the spot.

Great Western should have gone level when Irvine broke away and with only the keeper to beat he fired his shot into the keeper’s arms. Old Aberdonians Cameron made a great run down the right beating two men only to see his shot go past the post.

Great Western’s ten men were tiring and in eighty five minutes Stuart Wyness put the game out of Great Western’s reach when he scored from seven yards making the final score 0-2.
