MS United 2 – 2 Bon-Accord City

Aberdeen FC Trophy Second Round at New Advocates Park on Saturday 12th December

Premier Division league leaders Bon-Accord City had keeper Hill to thank for going through to the last 32 of the Aberdeen FC Trophy.  Hill made some excellent saves during this second round tie against MS United at New Advocates Park and was the hero when the penalty kicks were taken – saving three.

With three minutes gone MS United’s Webster had to be substituted after damaging his ankle in a clash with Bon Accord’s McDonald. Bon Accord had a chance to take the lead in four minutes when from a cross from the left Craig miskicked from three yards out and the ball went out of play. MS United’s Mitchell then had a chance at the other end but his shot went wide.

In thirteen minutes MS United went ahead when Bon Accord’s defence stood claiming for offside and let Lewis McIntosh run through to beat keepr Hill. The home team were making chances and having most of the play but could not beat the in-form keeper Hill and the score remained 1-0 at the interval.

Three minutes into the second half Bon Accord equalised when a move involving Davidson and Bartlet ended with Mark Bartlet scoring from close range. In fifty-two minutes referee Innes awarded a goal to MS United then when it was pointed out to him the ball went past the post and hit the side netting he then gave a goal kick.

Bon Accord had a fifteen minute spell when they pushed forward in numbers but could not get past a hard-working strong defence and the score remained 1-1 after ninety minutes.

In ninety seven minutes MS United’s Alan Lloyd shot his team into the lead with a right foot drive. In the second period of extra time the visitors’ Stewart Mclaren scored from twenty five yards making the score 2-2 at the end of extra time.

Bon Accord’s keeper Hill then made three fine saves from the penalty spot putting his team into the next round 3-0 on penalties.
