Newtonhill 3 – 2 Ellon Thistle

Newtonhill came out victors in this mid-table battle. The game was played at pace and on a very heavy surface.

Ellon Thistle were the first to attack and had Newtonhill keeper Finnegan scrambling across his goal to push the ball for a corner. Both teams were finding it difficult to keep their feet and passes were going astray.

Neither team got the upper hand until the twenty ninth minute when Newtonhill’s Ross Milson‘s shot was fumbled by keeper Adamson and went over the line.

In thirty three minutes Ellon had a chance but Dailly’s shot was saved by keeper Finnegan. A minute later Ellon were level after Mark Kennedy got his head to a cross from Dailly and gave keeper Finnegan no chance.

In thirty seven minutes Ellon’s Rennie cleared the ball off the goal line from a Niven shot keeping the half time score at 1-1.

Half-time: 1-1

The second half started with both teams fighting to control the ball on a surface cutting up badly. Ellon got the break and when the ball was crossed to the far post Callum Duncan headed home.

Newtonhill had a claim turned down when Lutton fired in a shot from twenty yards which hit the underside of the bar and dropped down with Newtonhill players claiming a goal but referee McLean waved play on.

The ball was cleared only as far as the eighteen yard line where Newtonhill’s Craig Barraza‘s shot beat the unsighted keeper to level the score.

Newtonhill took the lead again with eight minutes left when Grant Moir scored with a drive from twelve yards making the final score 3-2 in a good hard fought game.

Full Time: 3-2
