Woodside 4 – 0 Johnshaven Athletic

Division One (East) at Lochside Park on Saturday 8th August

Nine points from three games puts Woodside on top of Division One (East). This was the first game at their new home ground and they were also showing off a new kit.

Woodside went on the attack from the start and with only keeper Wands to beat Jack’s shot was pushed clear by the keeper. In seven minutes Woodside made another chance when a cross from the left fell to McBain whose drive was parried by keeper Wands as far as Woodside’s Jack whose shot was saved by the keeper.

Woodside were on top and in twelve minutes a cross from the right was headed toward goal by McBain then deflected into his own goal by James Reid. Woodside’s accurate passing and speed were giving Johnshaven’s back four problems from every attack. Thanks to Johnshaven’s keeper Wands the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Half-time: 1-0

Johnshaven started the second half trying to get back into the game but after fifteen minutes of constant pressure Woodside started to take control again and in sixty four minutes John McBain put his side two up when he beat his marker to a through ball and scored from ten yards.

Five minutes later Johnshaven were caught claiming for offside when Steven Jack kept running  and slipped the ball under the advancing keeper. With minutes to go slack defending by Johnshaven let Mark McGunnigle through to make the final score 4-0.

Full Time: 4-0
