Cove Thistle 1 – 2 Bon-Accord City
Premier Division at Catto Park on Wednesday 5th August
This was a game of four penalties – two to each team. Bon-Accord City’s Keith Brazendale scored twice from the spot while Cove’s Craig Wilson scored one with keeper Hill saving the other to give Bon-Accord a deserved win.
Bon-Accord were the first to attack with Aurik testing Hopkins from close range but the keeper saved well. In sixteen minutes Bon-Accord went ahead after Tiffney was pulled down in the box and Keith Brazendale converted the resultant spot kick. Bon-Accord were on top forcing Cove into making mistakes but they could not hit the target again and remained one goal in front at the interval.
Half-time: 0-1
From the restart Bon-Accord were unlucky not to go further ahead when Buthlay’s shot was pushed clear by keeper Hopkins. Cove were struggling to get out of their own half and Bon-Accord’s pressure nearly paid off once again when a shot from Craig hit the bar.
Cove had a ten minute spell when they controlled the midfield but they could not break down their opponents’ defence. Just on the hour Bon-Accord struck the woodwork again when Buthlay’s header rebounded off the bar. However, a second goal for the visitors did arrive shortly afterwards when Redford was fouled in the area and Brazendale converted again.
In seventy-five minutes Cove were awarded a penalty which Craig Wilson coolly put past keeper Hill. With three minutes remaining Cove were then awarded a second penalty when Harris held back Law in the box. Wilson placed the ball on the spot but this time keeper Hill made a fine one handed save to give his team the three points and their first win this season.
Full Time: 1-2
