Old Aberdonians win the White Cup

Old Aberdonians 2 – 1 Theologians

It was cup business for league leaders Old Aberdonians when they took on Theologians in the White Cup final at Keith Park. Old Aberdonians have not been in a final since they won the Castle Rovers Cup back in season 1994/95.

The game started at a lively pace with Old Aberdonians going on the attack with a move down the left and Theologians keeper Duncan saved a shot from Fraser. In the eighth minute Old Aberdonians Andrew Cameron had the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed for a handball.

Old Aberdonians went in front on the half hour mark when, from an outswinging Euan Wilson corner on the right, Andrew Cameron got above the defence and headed into the top corner of the net. The score remained 1-0 at half time.

Theologians had a good fifteen minute spell at the start of the second half forcing keeper Clark to make saves from McKenzie and Watson. With sixty-three minutes gone Old Aberdonians doubled their tally when a flowing move ended with Cameron squaring the ball to skipper Euan Wilson who fired low past Duncan.

The goal of the game came in seventy-nine minutes when Theologians’ Lee Bowie beat three men before passing to Stephen Christie whose drive from twelve yards flew into the net. Theos kept the pressure on Old Aberdonians but could not score again leaving the final score at 2-1 to Old Aberdonians.
