Honours even in Stonehaven Friendly
Friendly at Mineralwell Park, Stonehaven, on Saturday 3rd January
AC Mill Inn and Newtonhill are two of the five clubs from the AAFA left in the Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup and will play in the fifth round in the coming weeks. Both clubs are keen to progress further and arranged a friendly game to keep their players focussed on their next round of the cup. AC Mill Inn will play at home against Addiewell Hearts or Lothian Thistle while Newtonhill will be away to Napier University.
The friendly started at a fast pace with Newtonhill pushing forward in numbers without success until the twenty seventh minute when Brooks put them ahead from close range. The score remained that way at half time.
Half-time: 0-1
Two minutes into the second half Newtonhill went two up when Phillips beat his marker and fired the ball past keeper Lawson. Ten minutes later AC were awarded a penalty and Muir made no mistake from the spot. With fifteen minutes remaining Allan scored for AC from a corner.
Newtonhill went ahead again five minutes later when Lutton‘s diving header found the back of the net. With the game deep into injury time AC’s Allan got his second of the day to put his team level.
Full time: 3-3
